PWP Crash Related to “Set Mask Buttons” Undo/Redo

Post by jfoster »

This one bit me a while ago. I’ve just been able to whittle down the steps necessary to reproduce the issue.

To reproduce the problem:

1. Start PWP 8.0.450.

2. Create Checkerboard Test Pattern.

3. For the Checkerboard image, use the Mask Transformation to create a new mask.

4. From within the Mask dialog box, select one of the “Set Mask Buttons” (“Mask All”, “Clear Mask”, “Set Mask to 50% Gray”, etc.).

5. Next, click on the “Undo Last Operation” button.

6. Then, click on the “Redo Last Operation” button. Note that PWP crashes.

Attached is a zip file of the the screen shot video of the crash. Of note, this (8.0.450) doesn't crash on my laptop. The desktop specs are:

Windows 10 Home 64
Core i7-4790s
32 gig ram
GPU - AMD R9 290x - 8 gig

The main use of the Set Mask Buttons for me is the Invert Mask.

Is your laptop Windows 11?

Also I noticed your mask dialog box comes up in the mask paint tool instead of the freehand lasso. This suggests that you may have at some point created a custom default mask settings file. When I did that here it did crash, and I am working on a fix.

The laptop is running Win 10, and I can confirm that when the Mask Default is changed to Paintbrush, the above replication steps cause a crash. Good catch on the video.
