File extension at save

Post by Dieter Mayr »

When opening the save or save as dialog and changeing the file type (e.g. to jpeg or png) and then changeing the dirctory the entension showed in "Filename" jumps back to .tif as long no filename is entered and "Untitled" is shown in the filename field.
Tiff is the default file save type set in Preferences.

Dieter,
I cannot confirm this behaviour on PWP 7.0.8 32 on Windows XP 32.

Here is a discussion on a similar topic regarding PWP 7.0.5.

David, try exactly this steps
Create a new image, no matter what size (I just use the default)
Click Save As
In Save As Dialog file name is shown as "Untitled" and Filetype is TIFF (as set in Preferences as default save type)
Jump in a other folder in Save As
Filename changes to "Untitled.tif"
Change Filetype to lets say PNG
Filename changes to "Untitled.png"
Jump in a other folder again
Filename changes to "Untitled.tif", Filetype stays as PNG.
It just happens when filename is shown as "Untitled", when the file has a name already it did not happen.
I can reproduce this on WinXP 32 bit and on Win7 with both 32 and 64 bit version.

Dieter,
I have followed your detailed procedure and can confirm, what you described. It seems that when the target folder is changed, the extention, if different from the default set in Preferences, reverts to that default.

I'll take a look at this and fix it for the next release.
