I'll sometimes use the anti-alias feature of the advanced mode of the brightness curve transformation on a masked region of an image - on bird's eyes usually. Of late (not sure how many revs back this goes- probably introduced with Guided Filter stuff), the anti-alias function turns the selected region black instead of smoothing out the jaggies.
