Absolute Difference

I'm wondering what the colors represent in this blend mode (in Composite).

I ran an image through Color Balance and could see no appreciable difference when visually comparing the before and after, nor did the histogram seem to change.

However, when I ran the two images through Composite, with Absolute Difference, initially the result was black (visually), but when I expanded the result in Levels and Color, that result was visible, as if the original image had a bright red filter placed over it, which I have never seen before. When I have done similar operations before, the colors are mixed and not solid like this one, so just wondering what the colors actually represent.

It means one image is slightly redder than the other.

If one image is brighter than the other you will see all the colors.

Thanks for the explanation.
