Printer

Post by tombriggs »

... I'm considering a Canon PIXMAR Pro9000 Mark II printer and wondering if anyone has any comments (positive or negative) relative to it.

I had a Pixma 9000 when starting digital photography, and while it was a well made printer, Canon's dye inks won't, in all likelihood last well, especially with matte papers (Canon's glossy and lustre papers may encapsulate the inks and enhance their longevity, but then if one is serious about printing one should be printing on matte paper as other types are a contrivance in imitation of silver halide technology). If printing on matte paper, one should consider a pigment printer.

I do follow you for a pigment printer, not about the mat paper. There are some very good other papers (Harman Gloss FB AL, Ilford Gold fibre silk,...) and those have a lot more dynamic range.

If somebody wants to print B&W it's highly recommended to use a printer with 3 blacks (black, grey and light grey : PK/MK;LK;LLK in Epson terms).
