File transfers from an old to new computer PWP8 v516

Post by den »

What files need to be copied/pasted from an old Win 10 computer to a new Win 11 computer to retain curves, preferences, transform settings, etc. from where to where for a Win 11 all user PWP8 version 516 install?

Assuming you are already using 516 under Windows 10, all the files go in the same place under Windows 11, namely:

C:\Users\<user name>\AppData\Local\Picture Window Pro

If you copy this folder to the new computer and re-install PWP (or you can copy after doing the install) you should have everything. Note that AppData is normally hidden so you need to set the view options in Windows Explorer.

Also beware that Microsoft tries to relocate your Documents, Pictures, Music, etc. folders to OneDrive for new installations. It takes some work to undo this and get them back to being local. There were some older messages here about how to go about resetting the file locations.

Another warning -- Windows 11 has a new Print dialog box which is much worse than the old one. Here is how to get the old one back:

Thank you... ...also for your thoroughness regarding local photo storage and the print dialog.
