Stable version
Hi, I am an old guy but a new user of Picture Window. I appreciate your efforts to update continuously this amazing software. However, for learning, I don't need the latest version but a stable one that I don't have to update every few days. Can you recommend me please such a stable version including the link to download it? Thank you.
Re: Stable version
Thanks for your note -- I understand where you are coming from since I am nearly 78 myself. Congratulations for being willing to try something new at your age.
There are two reasons I update Picture Window frequently:
1) To add new features from time to time which of course you are free to ignore. Rather than save up a batch of features for less frequent releases, this incorporates the latest ideas and suggestions in a timely manner and lets the user community participate in the testing and design of the product.
2) To fix problems that have been reported -- usually these are minor and related to recently introduced features or to some obscure feature that is rarely used or some very unusual use of an feature that has been around for a while.
I generally try to fix any bugs that show up within a day or two so the product remains very stable overall and so there are no outstanding bugs that I know of.
Currently there is a problem with the File/Export command which I expect to finish a fix for later today. Other than this there are no outstanding bugs that have been reported. If you are just starting out, the more common features you are likely to be using should be fine as they have been around for at least several years.
If you get stuck somewhere please either post your question here or email me directly -- that way I can modify the documentation to make it easier for the next user.
