I am using the brightness curve on a monochrome image and creating a mask in it. I occasionally see that when I use the feather tool in the mask editor that the feather width slider has no effect. I can move the slider, but the value remains fixed at 0.
If it is of any help. there are multiple brightness curve operations above the transform I see the problem in, multiple
of the have their own masks.
I have a workspace file that should show the problem, but this message board does not appear to allow .workspace suffixes. I've attached it with the suffix changed to .txt
I can't upload the TIF mage - it's too big a file (179MB)
Any thoughts?

Re: feather tool fails occasionally in masks
Here's a follow-up -
It looks like the slider gets very confused. If I try to do a blur in the mask, it appears not to work, but if I cancel and go the the flood fill and back, it looks like the slider position from the flood fill is copied back to the blur.

Re: feather tool fails occasionally in masks
I loaded your workspace file and substituted a different image. It looks like mask feathering was only used in the next to last Brightness Curve transformation. I tried undoing mask operations until I got to the feather operation, but everything seemed to be working OK.
Were you using Undo and Redo in the Mask dialog box? What type was the image file (color/b&w, 8/16 bit)?
Can you maybe try to reproduce the problem with a simpler example, perhaps starting with a test pattern so no image file is involved?

Re: feather tool fails occasionally in masks
a) I have been using Undo & Redo
b) The original image was a color TIFF, 16 bpp component, ie 48 bits total
c) let me look into a test image.

Re: feather tool fails occasionally in masks
Attached is a simple workpsace (renamed as .txt) that shows the issue on the last brightness curve xform. I used one of the test images included in PWP

Re: feather tool fails occasionally in masks
FYI -
Using the transform numbers (1 is the input file)...
The blur tool in the re-open mask works in the xform # 4 (brighness curve transform with a mask)
In xfrom #5, the sliders in both the blur and feather tools don't work.
In xform #6 and xform #7, they work again

Re: feather tool fails occasionally in masks
test_color.tif does not seem to be attached. Can you just change the workspace to start with a test image transformation instead of a file open? Or at least tell me which test image transformation you used.

Re: feather tool fails occasionally in masks
I'm not at my photo computer right now, but the image was one of the PWP test images. It had RGBCYM squares. I converted it to
a 16 bit TIF file for my tests.
I can look for the name tomorrow. It's weird - I drag & dropped it and the message shows it as an attachment.

Re: feather tool fails occasionally in masks
It appears that by messing around with mask undo and redo it was possible to add a flood fill operation to the mask operation list that had no seed point defined. The sample workspace you uploaded contained several instances of this, and there was a problem undoing these empty flood fill operations.
For the next release I fixed the problem with undoing empty flood fills and also made it so they should not occur in the first place. This may or may not fix all the problems you were seeing.
Let me know if this fixes all the problems you were seeing.

Re: feather tool fails occasionally in masks
Unfortunately, I still see the problem.
I have attached a revised workspace file and a jpeg of the color_spin test pattern.
1) start the workspace, then when it prompts you for an image, use the attached jpeg file.
2) go to transform transform #5, the 3rd brightness curve (second one with a mask) and open it.
3) edit the mask
4) try to change the blur radius or feather width via the scroll bar. Both fail to change the value displayed.
This is on the most recent (481) release. Note that I am running Win 8.1
Note I have changed the workspace name to end in .txt so the upload works
I hope this helps.
