Conditional curve when Y axis is hue : axis not showing color scale

The X axis shows hue scale in color :

The vertical axis is hue change, not hue.

Thank you - perhaps some clarification in the help and manuals could clarify the intended behavior.
I also found this odd X brightness - Y brightness control panel display showing the hue scale on the X axis :

Unfortunately no detailed steps. I was trying with different selections in the drop-down lists to understand how the transform works
