Is it the presence of proper LUTs in the source, the target, or in both profiles that enables the use of a rendering intent different from relative colorimetric?
Would it also mean that Preferences/Monitor rendering intent is irrelevant?

Re: Illumination, Colour Temp and Monitor Curves
Many thanks! As I'm reading the references, I wonder if someone could offer a three-sentences-or-less, layman, physiological/psychological explanation as to why pre-lighting prints (forget colour shifts) to be viewed in environments dimmer than daylight ambient light (but not that overly dim, with n...

Re: Illumination, Colour Temp and Monitor Curves
But getting the gamma right, how do I start knowing the numerical value of the target illumination level at the gallery? Is there an approximate model that would relate the decrease in illumination with what the pre-lighting gamma should be to compensate for it? Cheers.

Re: Naive Theoretical Colour Mgmt. continued.
Here is another writeup stating that matrix-based colour spaces (such as sRGB or AdobeRGB) can only be mapped to one another using relative colorimetric intent - choosing perceptual defaults to relative colorimetric anyway. Is that true? That would have explained, I think, why (255,0,0) translates t...

Illumination, Colour Temp and Monitor Curves
This may seem like an obtuse problem, but it's a real life issue. Monitor Curves are great if you could compare a test print with a monitor at the location where the print is to be displayed and then 'pre-correct' it. But what if one can't physically go to the display location, but the illumination ...

Here is a blurb supporting what Elie just said:

Naive Theoretical Colour Mgmt. continued.
David and Elie, Many thanks! I think I almost understand it now with perceptual and colorimatric intents. But what happens when a saturated colour (such as pure saturated red (1 0 0)) is mapped from a smaller gamut sRGB to a larger gamut AdobeRGB using 'Preserve Saturation' rendering intent? I thoug...
