Re: Light Falloff

This may be much more primitive than the calibrated method used by PWP now, but I recall PWP 3.5, while not having sliders, had 'Focal Length' and 'Film Size' parameters. Between the two, it was fairly easy to adjust for fall off in the corners. Could some similar manual method with one/two paramete...

Light Falloff

Photographing a white wall and then using Compute in Light Falloff often gets me a 'Fail to fit a good fit' message. That is the case even if I blur texture. Would it be possible to add manual slider(s) (akin PWP3.5, if I recall correctly) so that the falloff could be corrected manually still? There...

Re: Chroma Noise Reduction

I've been experimenting with high-ISO chroma noise reduction some more. AS chroma-only blurring works well often, but it tends to soften the image sometimes (perhaps it's an illusion of making the image less grainy). The second tab in AS, the Speck Removal, sometimes can work even better in 1x1 pixe...

Re: AHD vs. VNG RAW interpolation

Den, what's the visual/practical difference between AHD and VNG interpolation when developing diffraction-blurred RAW? Why would you bother to use VNG, only for blurred RAW? Is it because of aggressive sharpening and the 'maze-like' AHD noise being emphasized and with sharper initial RAW you wouldn'...

AHD vs. VNG RAW interpolation

I played a bit with the AHD and VNG interpolations for the same RAW files and I don't find them that overly different. With low noise images, AHD seems to produce less zipper-like artifacts on sharp edges than VNG, but with high noise images it produces these unnatural mosaic-like structures in smoo...

Re: Watermark question

Be aware that FastStone Viewer can read 48bit TIFFs but saves them as 24bit ones. Also, batch processing in FS will strip the ICC profiles.

Controlling white halos in USM

The more methods of sharpening I try, the more I like USM. If not overdone, the images look mostly natural, except for halos, which are really easy to create. One effective method of dealing with halos is to suppress the light portion of them, which is more obnoxious than the darkened portion of edg...

Re: 2 and 3 zone adjustment before and after buttons

While not exactly what I think you wanted, there also is an off-label use of Composite that may help: use one version of the image as Base, the other as an Overlay, and shift-click on the Amount button at any zoom to compare the two.

Chroma Noise Reduction

I often have a problem with chroma noise in high ISO images - I find it more objectionable than the luminance noise. In AS, Noise Reduction tab, there is an option "blur chrominance only', which works fine. I can't use it in a workflow though as there is no AS widget. Is there another way? I tr...
