Re: Adding noise anyone?
For me, photo-realistic images will have 2 to 3% luminuos/chromatic noise. Otherwise, they will appear too 'plastic'. I will add RGB noise to a color landscape image's nearly clipped cloud highlights to make the near clipping less obvious. For black/white images... added noise can be an artistic ben...

Re: What exactly are halos?
Not so obivous, but 'halos' can also be 'dark' on 'light' backgrounds: halo_1.jpg As previously mentioned, halos can be produce by overly aggressive sharpening or as illustrated directly above, overly aggressive 'Local Contrast Enhancement'... and again, the solution is to back off on the amount of ...

Re: Color Remap - in regular use?
(1) re: Loading Remap ColorPairs pre-sets : the only way currently seems to be the use of 'swatch' images and the Probes of the 'Color n' and 'Remapped Color n' dialogues as suggested in MikeG's OP link: http://dl-c.com/forum/comments.php?DiscussionID=438&page=1#Item_0 (2) re: Test Image : attac...

Re: Raw and Magenta Highlights
Randys & Kiril I just re-tried an image RAW conversion that was discussed during PWP5 Beta testing with the current release and magenta is still present in the recovered clipped highlights.... Inspite of the magenta, the recovered highlight detail is remarkable. Illustrated below left to right a...

Re: Color Remap - in regular use?
Mike... (1) an AbsoluteDifference comparison of the two images posted above show a dynamic range change of approx 23% which when expanded to full range will show the color changes as well... looks like a good application of Remap... especially if you obtained preference results. (2) a suggestion. Li...

Re: Color Remap - in regular use?
Because Remap adjustments tend to better blend into the transformed image than if the same adjustments are made with the ColorCorrect with its single Radius adjustment and/or the single Color Balance mid-tone adjustment [pre-PWP5]... my preference is to use the Remap transform for what I used the Co...

Re: 3 tone mask for B&W?
Experimented -- No, but used 3Tone masks to achieve preference toning for a BW image's shadows, and/or midtones, and/or highlights -- YES. In another message posting... BobC said it best: B&W is more abstract – all we have to work with is V. Most photographers have their favorite approaches, but...

Re: Black and White in PS
I believe you have correctly intrepeted into PWP, K Rockwell's approach as Composite-Blend is nearly the same as PS's 'overlay' and the Composite-Softlight/Hardlight and Filter transforms are nearly the same as PS's 'multiply'... Something you might consider is a less contrasty approach more along t...

Re: Subtractive filter and hue shifts
BobC... I believe the Filter transform in either Additive or Subtractive modes functions in the RGB color space... if this is the case, then hue and saturation shifts can be experienced as well as those for tone... One way to avoid this possibility is to extract the image's H, S, and V channels... p...

Re: PWP5 Image Blending & Tone Mapping
Below is a link to a higher resolution suggested PWP5 final adjusted image with a StackImages screen shot/description for the blended image. The next step is to add preference tone/color contrasts to the low contrast blended image which contains the necessary image detail of the scene's extended dyn...
