Levels and Colour - Midtone contrast preserving WP and BP
This is just for the record: I've been introducing a friend with no experience in image processing to the wonders of PWP. She likes Levels and Colour a lot, because it can adjust all major aspects of the image with little fuss. The only thing that she lacks is the ability to easily change the midton...

Monitor Profile - sRGB and blocked shadows
How to explain it: The working colour space is AdobeRGB; the monitor is not quite calibrated, but it has about right gamma; the Monitor Profile is set to sRGB; the image file is in AdobeRGB space. On the monitor, the dark pixels below lower ~4% (pixel values 0 to 9, in 8bit) are all blocked to black...

Re: Show clipped pixels in RAW
I think that showing clipping in HSV-V and HSL-L would be most practical, and these are colour coordinates PWP uses most often anyway: between the two I would know which areas are pure white, maxed out in at least one RGB channel, or pure black. If thresholds were user-selectable I could identify ar...

Show clipped pixels in RAW
I find it v. useful to map in preview which pixels are maxed out or blocked. In RAW, there is 'show clipped pixels' switch. It inverts pixels that are 0% and 100% in HSV-V or HSL-L (I think), but only if dynamic range black and white point sliders are moved beyond 0-100% range, even if the histogram...

Re: RAW and Camera Colour Profile
Mark, Thanks! I've tried the PhaseOne generic camera icc profiles (125Mb download to get 215Kb profile - are there any other sources of generic camera profiles?). They seem to work, but I'm not sure if I understand when exactly in the RAW processing they are applied. Two observations: - when I tried...

RAW and Camera Colour Profile
Could someone offer a brief explanation as to what a Camera Colour Profile is, how to make it, how and when it is used in the RAW processing sequence and what happens when it is set to none?
Cheers!

Re: Guides - all 'Thirds' lines
Thanks Den - I was afraid that the guides were hard-wired. Awesome, I just added the Thirds guide and it works - it's almost like joy of programming...

Guides - all 'Thirds' lines
Could 'all thirds', displaying all 4 lines be added to the Crop/Add Border and under right-click/Grid guide selection?

Re: Colour Merge Mode
One reason I was interested was my quest of reducing chroma noise. Another is that cloning H,S,V(L) separately can be quite useful in editing, I think. Paint tool has this ability, but only for cloning solid values of the channels.

Colour Merge Mode
Just want to make sure that there is no other way: to copy saturation and hue, but not value from one image to another I need to split them in channels and recombine as appropriate? Would adding a 'colour blend' mode(s) to Composite or perhaps hue/sat only mode to Clone make any sense?
