Re: All Good Things Come to an End
Hi Jonathan/Kiril Really sorry to hear this. Sadly I lost interest in photography quite some time ago. But I dearly remember the days when I was happily involved and reckoned PWP was the only way to go. I never got on with photoshop or alternatives like Gimp - and Lightroom horrified me. PWP gave th...

Re: TIFF and LZH and ZIP compression
I come across this problem often at work, although it's in binary computer data, not images. Problem's the same. Some algorithms work better with binary than others (generalising). Best is to turn it off if there's not a significant decrease in size, saves the compression/decompression algorithm ove...

Re: TFT monitor
I agree with Jim. Be careful, though. Just cos a model was listed/tested with a specific panel type, later versions of the same model may have the panel type switched, often to an inferior version.... I dithered for a while before going wide screen. (24" Dell 2405fpw, s-pva). Wouldn't be withou...

Re: Adventures in Wide Space
I prefer to take the digital image, compress the dynamic range in transform/brightness, convert to a different colour space (lets say sRGB for web use), check the histogram after conversion for clipping. If there's no clipping, I'll then adjust the image as needed. Often a full range adjustment is n...

Re: Raw settings dialog
Peter, the reason behind leaving it in the camera space was to prevent clipping. As no conversion takes place, there's no degradation of the image from an unnecessary colour space change. When you do the conversion manually you have all the control you need to convert without clipping. I need to get...

Re: Raw settings dialog
either leave it in camera space - or convert to wide gamut, then convert to your working colour space using /transform/colour/change profile (sorry if this isn't quite correct, I'm working from memory). .

Re: PWP5 in Wine (on 64bit Ubuntu)
There were some posts about running 5 under Ubuntu in the beta forum. Can't remember what the URL is, though - perhaps someone can help out.
