In a old german PS-Book (Photoshop 6 Kompendium, Markt und Technik) I found the following contour effect, example is a Text, but can be used with other contours, too.
Base is a Text, preferable a Font with thick lines.
The text is blured, in my example for a font size of 250 pixel with Gaussian, 100%, Radius 7.
Then a Brightness Curve is applied according to the following picture.
If only a V shaped curve is applied, just the outline is selected, every additional V adds a new line, maybe more blurring is necessary for more lines.

Maybe it is helpful for someone

Cute, Dieter. If you start with blurred colored text, you can arrive at a similar effect using the S curve in color curves.
