Workflow with mask embeded - size and TIFF compression

I noticed that .wfl files that contain masks are quite big. I suspect that the reason is that masks are saved as uncompressed TIFFs. Is there a technical reason (such as speed) for not compressing masks embedded in workflow files? Most masks compress beautifully. While manually Zipping .wfl files with masks embedded is a bit of trouble, it shows how small could they could be if TIFFs were compressed (e.g. 20Mb workflow file versus 650Kb for the same worflow zipped).
